Placing Ad elsewhere

Hi all again, looking for some more help and advice

I want to advertise something on ebay, but would like to place the item I am selling somewhere else as well as Ebay, is there anything I should know, ie is there somewhere that covers me if the items sells somewhere else?
What is the usual prodedure for writing this into the auction, as am sure i have seen other sellers mentioning that their listing is advertised somewhere else as well as with ebay.

It is against eBay rules to list an item elsewhere and if someone bids it's flippin' annoying to be told after the listing ends that the item has sold elsewhere, you'll probably end up with a negative feedback and eBay bills to pay, basically don't do it

Try one venue at a time, don't risk it on eBay if there is a chance it will sell elsewhere.
