Credit card protection using several cards

I have a quote to do a loft conversion. It's going to cost around 38k. Does anyone know if I can get section 75 protection if I spread the cost over several credit cards? Also as it is over the 30k maximum amount that section 75 provides would I still be protected for the first 30k or is this actually not covered at all by section 75 because it exceeds the maximum? I do have to pay in three installments. Finally, can the company refuse to accept credit card payment? Thanks :money:

The company can refuse card payments or add a reasonable amount for their card processing costs (3% is common). That's a commercial decision for them to make.

If the total cost is over £30k I think that you will not get the standard s75 protection even if you spread it over several cards.

But IIRC there is some other protection for purchases over £30k. Can anyone else help?

    Found it now.

Purchases of £30k-£60k are covered by s75A
http://www.legislation.gov.uk/ukpga/1974/39/section/75A which is similar to s75; provided the credit agreement is specifically and explicitly for those goods/services only.

So a credit card purchase over £30k is NOT covered under s75A or s75.
