Stripping a house

We are hoping to renovate our home and are basically going back to the bare bone structure. We will be getting rid of all the doors, windows, wood floors, heating system etc etc. Any recommendations on how to do this in the most cost effective way. Ideally would like to be paid by someone for the opportunity to take all the stuff from the house.
Thanks

Contact one of the many reclamation yards there are around the country
You may click thanks if you found my advice useful
  • Maybe try gumtree? It will also depend on what items you have to offer ie old fire place, tall skirtings, anything of value which i doubt as you would sell this. If you are going back to bare brick then you will get money for the electrical wire copper!

Have regard for the period of the house. eg stripping out old doors and replacing with modern veneer rather than the original or something of the original style can be detrimental to the value - although obviously the works as a whole would be expected to lift the value.

Thanks guys, but can anyone recommend a company that offers this type of service. Ie. we will physically remove from house, even for free. Irony is alternative where I have to pay builder to strip house and unlikely to have chance to sell any of the valuable stuff.

a man and a van will do it, but will charge you.
otherwise use freecycle for any half useful bits.
    Get some gorm.

What you think is 'valuable stuff' and what others think may be at loggerheads.

People seem to over estimate the value of say architectural salvage. The professional salvagers know what they are looking for and most of us don't live in houses that have particularly valuable interior panelling, fire places etc.

The price they will pay, if anything, is normally very low as they have to take into account the cost of removal and transport, cleaning and then a substantial margin.

You would be lucky to get somone in to take it for free. In reality most of what you think is valuable simply isn't valuable at all and is no more than match wood ready for the bonfire.

As others have said, put it on freecycle, freegle and gumtree and get the receiver to dismantle.

Sorry to say this but as Captain Manwairing would say "I think you are getting into the realms of fantasy here, Jones"

The only way you will get anything back is stripping the house yourselves and then selling bits and bobs. Expecting folk to come and do the work and in the time scale you need is madness.

Time is money so either spend some time doing it yourself or get the builders to do it.

if youre gutting back to brick, the ratio of 'valuable stuff'
(ie wire/pipes/tanks and things like period doors etc)

will be DWARFED by the amount of crap ie
plaster, plaster, old architrave, plaster, laths and studs, plaster, old carpet, plaster, old electrical and plumbing fittings, plaster, plaster, plaster, handrails and balustrades etc, plaster, curtains and poles/ blinds, plaster, junk, plaster, rubble, plaster, old door linings, plaster, old flooring and tiles, plaster, fittings like shelves, plaster....

    did i mention plaster?
