I bought basa fillets (one of the river cobbler's other names), not smoked, to use in a fish pie. I was curious, having never heard of a basa, so googled it. I font know if it was the look of it or what I read but when I ate it I thought the texture was awful and it tasted really muddy. Wouldn't eat it again I'm afraid.
the fish is a botton feeder, I personally think its disgusting,, there is no body to the meat it just a bit of a formed mush...Work to live= not live to work0 -
I bought it once and i must be honest i couldnt eat it it was horrible!!
The texture is very strange.
That was before i even heard what sort of fish it was so needless to say it wont be on any future shopping lists. We are all in the gutter, but some of us are looking at the stars

It's a catfish. They feed at far more than just the bottom. Admittedly, as the majority are ambush predators, they will hide themselves in convenient holes and recesses in a riverbank, but bottom feeder isn't particularly accurate, as in their natural habitat they will take from all levels of the water column.
Now plaice, skate, dab and turbot feed right at the bottom. As do rays and gurnard, lobster, crab, crayfish and a whole lot more.I could dream to wide extremes, I could do or die: I could yawn and be withdrawn and watch the world go by.Yup you are officially Rock n Roll0
