Strange payment method

A week ago I sold a magazine on ebay and been waiting patiently for him to pay. Yesterday it was 7 days and no payment received so I sent him a kind reminder along with another invoice.
This morning I got a message apologizing and saying he would pay straight away.
Now I received a paypal message saying this guy has paid and I have logged in to paypal and seen that the money is there as well.
What confuses me is that he has not used the ebay invoice to pay but he have gone in to paypal and made the payment.
When I sent the ebay invoice his name was A. Ruiz living in Texas. In his paypal message he says his name is Alejandra Diaz and the address he is giving me is to a Luis Barrero in Mexico.
Admittedly the magazine only sold for 14.00 so we are not talking about a fortune here but I don't feel comfortable with the situation.
Looking at the guys feedback he seems ok. got 167 feedback and 2 neg a year ago for not paying/late payment.

What would you do? I know I'm not covered sending it to an unconfirmed address...

He might just be using a paypal not linked to his ebay, is his address confirmed?

One thing Soo will problem confirm/deny, is if he wasnt the winner he didn't put in the item number when he sent the payment, which could make any claims invalid
  • If he did put the item number in when he paid, in My Ebay it would show up as paid, and it should be viewable on the paypal transaction.

It does sound fishy though. Has the buyer bid on a lot recently?

Ebay doesn't show up as paid so I guess he didn't put in the item number. He has only bid on one of my items and the last purchase he did on his account was in Jan. He seems to buy an average of 3-4 items a month.

I'm considering to send his money back and tell him I cant accept it and ask him to use the ebay invoice to make his payment. That way I should get the correct address as well.

I would be inclined to refund the payment as well.

I suppose there's a chance he's bought on behalf of a friend and the friend has paid. I've paid for my sister's purchases when she didn't have a PP account.

You need an explanation from him.
