AOL - saving email

Hi there,

Please can anyone tell me how I can automatically save all sent and received email? I am on AOL, I think it's version 9. It always used to save everything on my PC automatically but since switching to broadband recently it seems only to save going back about a month and then deletes anything older than that.

Also is there a way to get back older emails which I am now missing?

Many thanks in advance.

Regards,

AOL is such a pain as you can not use an e-mail client such as outlook or firebird. Everyone I know who are on aol have problems with their e-mail. aol only deletes on the server and not your own pc. However it should not delete mail that is only a few weeks old. It is unlikely any of the e-mails have saved to your hard drive unless you specifically asked for them to do so. When reading your mail there should be a drop down menu to save the mail to your hard drive. Make sure you do this each time. There should also be an option to view all mail on your hard drive. If the mails are not in there then they have been deleted. There are settings on aol but I am not sure if you can set for all mail to be downloaded to your pc.
You can however set up a new e-mail address either with gmail or lycos.co.uk ( both free & good). There should be a setting on aol to forward all mail to your new address.

  • Hi

Do you use the option to save onto your PC? its a dropdown option saying save, then you can choose to save either on aol or on your PC. if you choose PC then you can name a file and if its anything like my setup it should save it indefinitely.

oh sorry someone just said that! doh!

  • I am on dial up but I save special emails by clicking email, then saved on AOL then setting up a folder with a relevant name. eg I save lots of passwords for different things by sending myself an email and putting in the relevant folder I have invented.
When the AOL went wonky the other week, I had to remove it from the computer and restart it all again. However, all my email folders were still there. Thank goodness.

Sorry but that statement is rubbish! AOL is an ISP and does support the use of e-mail clients, however they block port 25. See here for set-up information.
