we are going to be purchasing a laptop for my son in the next few weeks and he wants a i7 laptop minimum spend £800
any recommendations?

Tell your son to stop being so silly. i7 is overkill for laptops - he won't be doing anything that requires that sort of processing power, and it will kill battery life. An i5 with a decent mobile graphics card will be much better for gaming (if that's what he's wanting to do with it) than spending the extra money on an i7poppy100
