Thinking of joining "FON"

I have unlimited broadband with Sky at my home.
My daughter is currently away from home in hospital staff accommodation with no internet or telephone connnection available.
I have read about FON and was wondering if anyone has experience of joining this (not via a partner like BT) and how it works. Ease of set up is important since I'm not very techie minded.
I have checked that FON is available where my daughter is - so I would like to know also how easy it will be for her to access.
Thanks - any help most welcome - she feels like she's cut off from the world!!

Think you join by buying the FON router, hook it upto your broadband and it allows other fon registered users access to your broadband and you can make money from it.

Also allows you to connect to other fon registered wifi hot spots.

I have 1 of the fon routers, got it free when they gave them away but never hooked it up, seemed no point as live in very rural area.

It depends on her type of internet use, but one problem for your daughter is that FON subscribers only provide a proportion of their bandwidth to other users. If she happens to be near a subscriber that makes heavy use of their connection then there may not be much left for her.

You may find it's better to just use a PAYG mobile broadband service such as the one that 3 provides. You can get both dongles and pre-loaded SIM cards on eBay quite cheaply (e.g. 90 days up to 3Gb for £12).
