Thanks I've checked and my windows firewall is turned on, but my windows defender is off, is that ok?
I have just downloaded Malwarebytes-anti malware. I'm going to have a look at the WOT and Sandbox.
I will have the most secure laptop in the country by the time I'm done(even if I dont understand how!)
Thanks again everyone x£100 - £10,0000 -
I'm quite a fan of Threatfire.......
+1 for Threatfire which acts as a behaviour blocker alongside your existing a/v to minimise zero day attacks.
It's saved my bacon many a time when conventional a/v's have failed to recognise a piece of malware because they had no signature for it.
You can use it straight out of the box (really simple) or create your own custom rules. I have set it up as an outbound filter, together with Sandboxie, because to all intents and purposes Windows Firewall has no outbound filtering which is pretty useless if you have a trojan trying to send out information from your computer to a malicious server.0 -
I'd be doing the browsing in a VM. VirtualBox and a live Linux CD are free, and everything is deleted when you power down the virtual machine.0

Hmm, not so sure I would use VirtualBox if I had got limited computer skills, which the OP has already declared.
IMHO I would opt for something relatively simple like Returnil for the benefits of virtualisation without the hassle,0 -
If you are an daily internet user you must have, next to your antivirus, a Firewall, that will block attacks and other threats send from the websites you visit, into your PC. I use Kaspersky Internet security 2012 which in my opinion is the best, but there are a lot of other names out there that do the work. If you use sensitive info on your PC, 20-30 quid to pay per year is nothing compared with how much you could loose if you are not safely browsing or running your PC. As a free alternative that works like a charm to protect your PC I recommend using Avast Free Antivirus along with the Comodo Firewall (which also has a free version). More help can be provided via PM if you have more questions.0

Thanks I will have a look at Avast, and malwarebytes.
Dogmaryxx wow that looks great, I have never heard of anything like that before, and for my work it looks perfect. Is it easy to use if you dont know much about computers?
It's also free though after a while you get a prompt on start up. To be honest I think it is worth paying for.0 -
On ending a web session I right click on the sandboxie control, click on the default box and delete anything in it. Simples!
