Gambling problem

I started doing gambling sites only for the cash back at first and then i got hooked and im losing so much money its stressing me out ....even when i win a few hundred i end up losing it again.

I going through a stressful time at present and i think im just doing it to escape for a bit but then it gives me more stress lol

Today i was playing with £100 i lost £50 then won again to take me back to £100 and then i knew if i carried on i would lose it all but i still carried on playing Poker and BJ and lost everything...its not like i can afford it as i do need the money.

Just wished i never saw these gambling sites on the cash back sites :(

I know its down to me at the end of the day and i should have more control ......but i just wanted to escape for a bit and ended up with more stress to think about lol

I rang the banks who im with and asked if there is any sort of block they can put on these gambling sites and they said there is nothing they can do.............im going to delete all the gambling software of my PC now and just hope that will be enough to keep me away.

Ive lost a good sum in the process of trying to get rich quick :(

You can load Gamblock onto your computer...it costs money BUT you cannot access any gambling related sites from your computer.

Sorry if I am opening up a whole can of worms but my only disappointment with MSE is that it is proactive in encouraging moneysaving/cashback through gambling sites which I am against for the very reasons you mentioned in your opening post :o

    Please look at Gamblock :)
  • Perhaps but then perhaps not. I know of countless people who have got out of debt by following the advise on the gambling loopholdes thread. If you follow the advise it is not gambling as it is 100% risk free.

Its proactive at finding offers on cheap alcohol - this isnt good news for alcoholics! Do we ban these threads? What about overweight people - ban the supermarket offer threads?

Whilst i sympathise witht he OP and hope he/she gets the help needed i dont feel this is a reason to stop others from making/saving money

To be fair, if he followed the rules on the MSE Gambling Introduction Board then he wouldnt have lost any money, as he wouldnt have been gambling in the first place.

I have a lot of sympathy for you as my dad went through the same thing when I was only a kid. It resulted in my parents temp splitting up, my dad having to borrow money from my gran to pay bills (and she couldnt rlly afford it), and also lost his job.

He's a very stubborn man and it took a while but he finally realised he's not going to win. Suddenly he turned it around. He didn't really need help, but he gambled in moderation. He'd do a 1 quid accumulator on the footy every week, so that allowed him the excitement, the possible big wins, and the research, without losing much.

One thing to remember and write it on your wall behind your computer...
You do NOT have the odds to win at blackjack.

Some people will disagree with that statemement but casino's aren't built on winner....

Poker is an interesting one. If your playing texas hold'em against other players, then you have to think about how you're playing it.

If you look at your own 2 cards, then play the game based on that, it ends up you versus everyone else at the table! If you look at your 2 cards, but you know what ALL the players at the table do with what hands (slow play aces, bet out flushes, check raise bluffs etc etc) then you have a MASSIVE advantage.

Poker can oinly be won once you understand several rules.
    1) You need to know what you have
    2) you need to know what your opponent has by betting styles
    3) you need to know what your opponent thinks you have by your style!!!
    4) you need to know that your opponent knows, that you know, that he knows that you know!

Just to see how much dept it goes into, type into amazon "Texas Hold Em" and see how many damn books you get!!! Its ridiculous.

If you don't want to give up poker read a few books. If you can understand a lot of hard maths read Sklanskys Advanced No Limit Theory, and if you want to start of a bit smaller just read "No Limit Hold Em Cash Games"

Then sign up to VC Poker or BlueSQ (same network) and play in the games with a max sit down of $20 (min $1)... so sit with about $5! about 2 pound 50!
Then play poker properly! Study the books PROPERLY! No skipping pages or cheating, you need to read and re read and fully understand! Then just test the water and play.

Your aim is to make the most of your good hands and reduce the losses of your worst! So you need to play HARDLY ANY hands apart from when you hav epretty much the nuts!

Thats proper poker. If its too much, then like blackjack you don't have the odds to win.

I hope your addiction is still reversible, and if so please take some inspiration from this and help yourself! :)

    Good luck

I may be wrong, but I don't think encouragement with the thought that consistent winning at poker was possible was quite what the OP needed to hear here.

If I told you I had an alcohol problem you surely wouldn't start suggesting that I could improve things by trying a different brand of scotch? "Help" like this has nothing to do with money saving.

  • Read the whole thing. i go into very much detail on what's needed to make poker a profitable game! Now I dont think Dealmad would actually want to read all those books etc which makes it easier to give up!!!!

Smokers don't just stop in one day either...

Drinkers don't just stop in one day either...

Its not easy but what I said would make it easier

The only way to stop smoking and drinking is to stop.

To not have any more cigs or alcohol at all - you cannot "sort of give up" if you are an addict.

Same with gambling - get some help to stop you gambling at all - there's no such thing as a safe bet.

You can tell a lot about a woman by her hands..........for instance, if they are placed around your throat, she's probably slightly upset. ;)
