get my bank to give me a credit card

If I approached my bank 6 or so months down the line with a current account holding several hundred £ for a few months (this being after the monthly turnover of wages in, rent and bills out) an overdraft of £250 not used and my Vanquis CC paid off in full every month, having held the card since February - how likely do you think I would be to get a card?

The OD of £250 was used for a few months previously because all out of the blue a family member wanted all the money I owed them back and I was literally out of pocket. Bank gave me OD without a hitch but other than that I am good with money and have pretty much worked myself out of it now and back into +ive.

Its Clydesdale bank but I am not sure how stringent their requirements are. Just asking because I don't particularly like using my Vanquis CC with its eye watering APR and the company themselves are pap.
Oh, you wee bazza!

If you are paying the vanquish card in full each month then the interest shouldnt make any difference. In fact it may be better to have a high rate so you arent tempted to start building up debt and paying interest

You say you have paid it in full "every month" but then that you only got the card in Feb, ie last month.?

Ultimately you can only find out if you'll get one by applying. On the surface your odds dont sound brilliant but that is based on alot of assumptions and it could well be that they are happy to give you one.

I don't know about other banks but Halifax give their current account holders guaranteed credit card offers after 6 months.

They gave me one with a whopping £6k credit limit when my total combined limit of 3 other cards was £2000.

    InsideInsurance,

it was for just in case I had an emergency. On the Vanquis CC an emergency could turn out to be an expensive one! I have paid one statement already and another is due to come out very soon which will be paid by a DD.

my odds just now are probably really low (I'm not even sure if my electoral roll status is posted to CRAs yet) but I'm hoping by Christmas-ish time I'll be able to get mainstream credit. I'll have managed my Vanquis card well I hope and I am due to be getting a bonus from work which I will let sit in my current account so my bank can see I do have spare cash.

    that's the plan anyway.

    James,

I didn't think guaranteed CCs existed anymore after the credit crunch. good to know.

I think there are but the accounts to get them are equally challenging. I think the last time I looked Allen Carter still gave an AmEx Gold card but require you to keep a current account balance of at least £25,000 or £100,000 for the Platinum card.
