Help with my electric consumption please

Options
We moved house on 7th Dec the elec reading then was 19969 and today it is 21225
Each unit costs me 18p so I make that a bill of £226.88p:eek:
Is this right?
Its only a 2 bed house. Were out during the day. Little tumble drier use but do do 3 wash loads a week.
We lived only a mile away before in the same size house with a bill of less than £30 a month.
Am I working out my bill right. Im so worried about paying for it all now.
Im waiting for economy 7 to be fitted as I can have it and should make a difference so im told but this £226 seams way wrong.
Im wonderinf if we read the metre wrong on the day we moved in? Or could the metre be fauly?
2007 is my getting slim year
Total weight loss so far is 16llbs:T
Total to go 15 pounds:eek:
Not no more as im having a baby:D

Yes id say thats way too much. I have 3 bed detached and dont pay anywhere near that. 18p is too high as well. You need to switch.

Where do you live and how do you pay for your bill?

I would suggest that 18p per unit is probably for the first X units, units used thereafter should be substantially cheaper

I'd say that's way too much - I consider myself as someone who uses quite a lot of electricity as I've got several computers running 24/7 in my office and even with a failing fridge, I was nudging about 35/month...

Assuming you don't use electricity for heating, then the size of house is not a big factor.

1,256 units in 11 weeks is not particularly high.

The 18p you quote for electricity can only be for Tier 1 which is the first 225 units in a quarter for most tariffs. After that it reduces considerably on Tier2
For instance taking BG's standard rate (before their impending price cut) the price varies from 9.67p/kWh(East Midlands) to 11.77p(SWALEC) with the average being about 10.5p. -and BG are not the cheapest.

Why are you getting economy 7? Do you realise that although you get cheaper rates for 7 hours somewhere between midnight and 8am, you pay considerable more for your daytime electricity? Without storage heaters it is difficult(but not impossible) to make economy 7 worthwhile.

Another couple of things you could look at.......
How do you heat your water ????
If it by electric immersion heater this will be where your high consumption is coming from.
Put the immersion heater on a time clock or if has already got one cut the hours of use right down.
You would probably only need it on for an hour in the early morning and maybe 3 or 4 hours in the evening .
I personally would cancel you Economy 7 if you can it is rarely worth it as the other poster says.
18p per unit is way over the top you should be changing again by the sound of it.
You might have read the meter wrong tho......as to the meter being faulty this would be most unusual.
If you use a tumble drier you could reduce your electric cost by using those plastic drier balls ( they do work )
