Glass globes for Village Hall Lights

Our Village hall has the old type of lighting (chain hanging down with a bulb and fitting on end covered by a large glass globe.) the globe is about 12" in diam. and has a hole where the light fitting and bulb fits.
Several of the globes are broken and we are finding it impossible to replace them. I've tried local reclaimation yards but without any success.
Can anyone suggest where we can get the globes from.

  • Not sure if these would look too modern, but a friend has recently put up some white glass globe lights, they were from Ikea. They do a wall light too.
They would go in in a period setting as they're quite deco looking, the fixings are in chrome. Not quite sure how big they are, but would guess around 12", maybe a little bigger. If you want I can try & find out more details from her, like the name & price?
  • Alternatively I have found some period glass shades on ebay, but you're unlikely to find a set of them.

Thanks never enough. I looked on ebay and found one that might fit the bill but I could do with a lot more. Thanks for the Ikea tip - if you could get more details I would appreciate it.
This is the kind of thing I am after - but bigger

The Ikea one looks like it is just what i am after... much appreciated

Just a thought but if the village hall is used for activities where there's the possibility of the shades being broken then is it worth considering plastic shades - health and safety and all?

think about changing the whole lot for summat like the ikea ones.
prob cheaper and quicker to do.
and buy some spare ones too!
    Get some gorm.
  • Agree with Ormus, get some spares from Ikea if you go for those as you never know how long they'll sell them. I've found it's usually until just before you need a replacement for something that you've broken!!

Thanks for the above. We have about 10 altogether in the hall (3 of them having broken globes ). I have recommended that we have 6 of the Ikea ones (and replace the whole fitting if necessary) which should see us for a good few years. Jonesya I take your point about plastic but we've been looking for globes for about 6 mts so I'm inclined to quit while I'm ahead. They're about 9ft off the ground and we dont have badminton or anything like that so hopefully they will rarely get broken.
Thank you all for your help.

Was just about to order from Ikea (which was an excellent suggestion) when I saw 'never enough's post. Have ordered 10 from Tchibo and the Village Hall Committee now see me as their CyberHero. Thank you all for your help
