my 1st reserve card works in any link atm. it doesnt work at pay at pump petrol stations etc as it needs a live authorisation for card payments to go through. i used this account as a current acc when i got a ccj and my bank closed my accounts. had wages paid in and dd's and so's go out without a problem although it says in terms and conditions that this acc doesnt allow them

about 3 years later (2008) when ccj was satisfied natwest accepted me for a normal current account with cheque book and blue visa debit card

sounds perfect to be honest, i just need something to get cash out in a hurry,

also hoping i can use it abroad - but thats less of a problem, as i can work around that

It's quite a weird account, as it's actually a savings account which acts almost like a current account. I've got one, and the debit card was replaced from a solo to blue Visa Debit a while ago, still works everywhere.

That said, I rarely use it as I have 2x Current Plus accounts with offline auth purple Visa Debit cards, which work worldwide in every ATM and on planes/trains/pay @ pump, couldn't you apply for one of these instead? (They're the Select account now, but essentially the same from what I've read).

i got turned down for the "free account" some time ago, I have no idea what a select account is - so its time to head to google!

Anywhere? You can get cash out at Natwest, RBS and Tesco ATMs, at Post Offices (use them or lose them), or by cashback.

    i meant locally,

the local supermarket (co-op) doesnt even register the card, which makes cashback impossible

its not caused any problems recently, but it has the potential too...hense the savings account

That might be a co-op fault (link down or terminal not updated?). Did you try on more than one occasion?

yep i sure did - i cant remember the HHT response - but it was short, and it was before i could put the pin in

as though the card type wasnt allowed.

I think that Natwest/RBS has behaved in a very petty (and discriminatory) way but although I appreciate it is leaving you without local access to cash, I don't think it should be judged on poor update process affecting one (or more) Co-operative stores. Can't say I'm surprised.
