When we start out on the DFW trail we do loads of "big stuff" that makes quite a difference to our situation. These include having our lightbulb moment, cutting up the credit cards and cancelling Sky and the gym.

But once we have done the bigger stuff, we often feel that we are not making the same amount of progress, when in fact the small steps are helping us form good financial habits and helping us get closer everyday to staying in control and becoming debt free, or staying debt free.

Examples could be hanging washing out instead of using the tumble dryer or leaving your purse/wallet at home to avoid the risk of spending.

So be proud of those small steps, they really are important
:money:

Good morning, all! I hope we missed the double thread trap...

Sounds like many of you on the weekend thread were recovering from big spending weeks - hope everyone is having a good run of frugalness. Hugs to those who need them.

Cheapish weekend here - spent most of it working, so some cafe expense but not too bad. Had a friends leaving 'do on Saturday which was great fun and lasted until 4 am  but only cost me fuel and the cost of a bottle of water as I needed to drive, and my margin of error on the motorbike is pretty narrow!! Was less cheap on Sunday as we had a leaving brunch, but had a cheep eve at another friends house watching a film.

Anywho, today:
  • Update budget and spending diary
  • check banking
  • bike everywhere I need to go
  • charge phone at work
  • email co-conspirators on surprise trip for OH :D
  • lunch provided by work
  • tea at home - leftover chili, will have to make some rice
  • gym in eve if not too late - first time in a very long while,
  • revise meal plan for week as has gone to scrap so far!
  • buy dog food
  • watch film at home or catch up on work in eve

Happy monday, everyone!
Mortgage free by 30:eek:: £28,000/£100,000
:DDebt free as of 1 October, 2010:D

Morning guys thanks for starting us off NTBY! You're life just sounds so busy all of the time!

Perni thanks for your thoughts on the shoes, duly noted. The problem is over the last 2 weeks I have spent £200 more than I should have done from my personal funds and also we have been dipping freely into the hoint account. So anything I can claw back I really should! The shoes I bought are lovely but really are work shoes and really I am after a pair of black flats that I can wear either to work or casually that don't look cheap! So definitely taking them back on my way to work... (sorry for the life story of the search for shoes there!)

Starting work at 1 so determined to make the most out of my morning!

    Things to do today:
    • [STRIKE]checked banking/cc statements [/STRIKE]- received 67p interest on bank acc! :j
    • [STRIKE]return shoes![/STRIKE]
    • [STRIKE]leave for work a little early so I can look for flats![/STRIKE] found 3 pairs: 1 in new look for £20 & 2 in Office for £35 :T. Will go in and try them on later in the week as am going for a NSD marathon!
    • [STRIKE]NSD[/STRIKE]
    [STRIKE]all meals from stores
    [/STRIKE]
    • [STRIKE]Have run out of coffee but am going to go without until I go shopping at the end of the week and just drink it at work[/STRIKE]
    • take meter readings
    • [STRIKE]check onepoll[/STRIKE]
    • [STRIKE]walk to work[/STRIKE]
    • [STRIKE]finish off accounting[/STRIKE] ok have update personal spending diary. That is shocking enough! Will leave the rest for another day...
    • [STRIKE]Mrs Flylady[/STRIKE]
    • gym and sauna this evening (first time in ages too NTBY ;))
    • [STRIKE]all meals from stores[/STRIKE]
    • finish book tonight
ok that's my lot! Have a great day everyone x

Hi folks, welcome to a new week. Four weeks now since my LBM...no spending on credit. We are struggling but are learning new habits all the time.
Hoping for a NSD today - lunch is with me from home. Have no classes or anything to attend. Dinner will be from the stores (did a decent shop at the weekend so have no excuse).

Have little else planned today - am at work. Washing is on the line but I think it will rain later. Definitely colder than of late but will try and keep the heating off as much as poss when I get home.

Now waiting to hear if I get an interview for a maternity cover secondment in work which would bring in an extra few hundred pounds a month (which I intend to save half off each month).

Although we are living with debt, the nature of DH's work means that it is a feast or famine income wise and it has been a famine lately. We have talked about building up a £3K nest egg/ emergency fund to cover any future famines. I'm due to be paid for my self employed work in the next few weeks and instead of spending it all in a "Yay, I have some money" style, we are buying the essentials and banking the rest in a seperate savings account.
  • Hi Guys,

I always check this trhead so though it was about time I posted myself!

    1) Check Onepoll/Surveys
    2) Stopped at parents last night and Dad made my lunch :)
    3) Dinner from stores tonight
    4) Do Tesco online shop to get £5 voucher off next shop
    5) Alone tonight without OH so perfect opportunity to sort declutter spare room for ebay/other stuff to sell!
    6) Write letter to bank re: transactions, as going to try and claim charges back
    7) LSD as only needed £2.10 for train fare to work

Have a great day everyone x

  • Morning all,

Sorry I disappeared over the weekend. Doctor upped my migraine medication and it's taking me a while to get used to it. Spent the weekend in a weird, exhausted state but am back at work today so back into the swing of things.
Hope everyone is well - I'll try and catch up properly at some point.
    Small list for today...
:p check bank (not too long till payday thankfully, 11 days)
:p ring cccs re mistake on my budget - this should increase my payment so dfd should get closer
    :p all meals from stores
:p ring up diet company re my 'competition win'
:p nsd - I put £58 liquid gold in the car yesterday so hoping I don't need to do that again this week.
:p find something non stressful to do after work that doesn't cost much
    Have a good one!
