BT Option 2 or 3

Hi

I am currently on BT Option 1 and I don't feel it is the most cost effective!! as my wife regularly phones her relations in Scotland mainly during evenings and weekends but occasionally on weekdays when she is not working.

Other calls are mainly to mobiles.

We have received leaflets from BT offering special offers on their Option 2 and Option 3 packages and was wondering what recommendations other users have ?

I have seen on the forums references to the Primus Server 2 Tariff ? Is this a totally free service, with no monthly fees ? if so how do the company make their money?

Finally I have seen leaflets regarding Tesco Home Phone and AOL Talk, are these better options than BT options 2 and 3.

I don't want to dial a prefix number before I dial, I just want to use the phone as normal.

Thanks in advance

The Primus Saver Option 2 CPS package is, indeed, totally free of any month charge. However, assuming your evening and weekend calls are less than 90 minutes, it only saves 5.5p per call (what BT charge for a 60 minute call).

If you want to save on daytime calls, you'll have to pay for an 'inclusive' CPS package.

To save on the cost of calls to mobiles, a gateway provider or 18185 is your best option.

In summary, I'd advise stay on BT Together Option 1 - but click the 'HERE' link in my signature below to see how to cut those bills.
Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.
  • primus option 2 will give you FREE evening & weekend ( 01&02 ) landline calls .They make there money from mobile calls ,daytime calls .
They dont have a set up fee which makes them cheaper than BT.

No BT-like 'call set-up fee' - but they do have minimum call charges for some calls.
A £0.07 minimum call charge is applied for calls to UK mobiles. For all non-inclusive calls there is a minimum call charge of £0.04.
