Sooo bored of Lidl and Aldi

I have been religiously shopping at Lidl and Aldi for months now- saved me a fortune! Ive only popped to Tesco/Sainsburys for the couple of branded items I can't get there. I try to vary it each week- one week Lidl, the next Aldi, and so on. My credit card is now paid off
However, Im just sooo bored. We seem to eat the same things each week, the stock is limited, and Im just bored of the shopping experience. I really dont want to get tempted back into Tesco/Sainsburys. I cook from scratch most nights, with the odd pizza/oven chips etc for the kids when Im working late.
Feel like Im stuck in a rut and the only way out is to do all my food shopping at M+S/ Waitrose!

I don't think I'll ever get bored of shopping at Lidl as long as they continue with their "half-price weekend" offers.
Sad I know, but part of my weeks excitement is finding out what my offers will be on the next weekend - not all brilliant, but exceptional value.
Long may they continue.

Why not try several sources for shopping? I'm afraid I don't quite 'get' this Aldi/Lidl worship, but then I don't only buy the cheapest products I can get. Instead I buy a blend of cheap, when it's good enough, and as expensive as I need to pay to get the quality/variety that I want.
I'm sure you could buy some of what you wanted in Aldi/Lidl or wherever, and get variety by just buying a few things in Waitrose. Better still, from small, High St shops.
Is it a case of trying to cut down on shopping trips?0 -
I don't get bored with Lidl. Having said that I tend to shop for 'ingredients' and make different meals from them each time so even though I'm buying the same stuff, the menu each week is different
TO be honest I don't go food shopping expecting an 'experience' to be enjoyed, it's a chore! Boring but necessary
Sounds like you need some recipe inspiration to me, not a trip to MrS!0 -
I don't enjoy food shopping (regardless of supermarket choice) or eating out these days, there's nothing enticing about either anymore

Cooking a great meal from scratch is a different matter.

I’m guessing that Naomi is talking about variety. It’s very true, there isn’t much in either Aldi or Lidl’s, so is understanding you’ll get board shopping in those stores after a while. I think I’m with A. Badger on this as you could try shopping in a variety of places as well, local market, Farmfoods, Nisa stores, B&M and Home Bargains, even Amazon believe it or not, whichever is cheapest. It may be a bit of a hassle to shop at more than one store though might be worth considering if you want a little more choice. And consider buying in bulk if you can as well, that way it may save you from having to go to many stores all on the same day, or whatever.
You could also try searching the following for cheapest prices, etc, as well if it helps any:

That's how I see it also and I could never do my weekly shop there or between Aldi and Lidl, I like to shop around.
Take away Lidl's "half-price weekend" and my visits would be limited to just the basics I want and bacon offers etc.
Looks like it's served it's purpose though for naomi123, well done on clearing your credit card. Hope you can find that compromise that suits you - good luck - don't miss those weekend deals though. lol

I don't use Lidl (too far) but Aldi is my closest supermarket and if cooking from scratch I can't think of much they don't have .I Would Rather Climb A Mountain Than Crawl Into A Hole

My local Aldi has quite a good range of fresh meats and cheeses, fresh soups (Only 3 varieites), fresh veg that are as good as any of the supermarkets and a good deal cheaper most times, a varied range of freezer items, not branded but often as good as, I could happily do most if not all of my shopping there!"Sealed Pot challenge" member No. 138

I agree with the poster who said maybe it's not boredom with Aldi/Lidl but with your menus. Or maybe the OP likes a bit of retail therapy in Waitrose as they do offer a pleasant 'experience'.
Personally, while I'm still shopping around after doing the basics in Aldi or Lidl, I'm finding that what's left to buy elsewhere is getting less and less. I do mostly cook everything from scratch and although not a veggie, veg does form the largest part of all my meals.
Perhaps we should be discussing what it is that we don't buy in Lidl/Aldi. What is it really necessary to go elsewhere for?
I did laugh last week, when someone posted up a storecupboard recipe containing caviar and then I saw jars of it on offer in Lidl!:rotfl:0
