I just checked ebay seeing your post. Surprised to know there is still a market out there for someone holding a windows 98 CD and key, after almost 5 years since EoS(End of support). Price ranges anything between £20 to £60, yes people still bidding and purchasing...amazing !!0

Old hardware.
A friend has an old PC running software he wrote that monitors and controls the temperature and a home built automatic irrigation system in his greenhouse.
His wife grows orchids and they need a steady temperature, humidity and water supply. His system monitors the soil dampness and controls the watering. The PC won't run XP so he's still a 98 user. Plus there's no real need for a more powerful machine or new OS while the old one is still going strong.
He's currently waiting for a Raspberry Pi, when it comes he's going to re-write his software and use it to replace the old PC, it should be cheaper to run.One by one the penguins are slowly stealing my sanity.0 -
I have a windows 98se cd and the manual with the key on the front. se = second edition.
havent used 98 in years, i prefer xp but am currently using windows 7.

Most people will now be running their computers via a router. As such this statement is simply not true. I have a backup machine with 98SE on it and has lasted many moons on the internet and never got infected - it also has a (admittedly rather dated) version of ZoneAlarm on it. This machine obviously shows its age with today's modern applications, but for what I use it for it is just as capable as my main computer (XP SP3). For the OP's application it is ideal.
(and sorry, I need to keep my 98SE CD...).0 -

Why do you think the OP wants 98 for surfing...?0 -
Control and automation engineers use older operating systems all the time. Industries are slow to upgrade machines due to cost. I've still got a machine running DOS. Use it regularly for communicating with control systems in the oil and gas sector. An upgrade to windows 98 would be a dream!0
