New cars or older used cars?

Proper bio diesel from the big chains or the home brew stuff with questionable quality controls?

Older stuff pre common rail will run on most mixes of fuel, Checkout owners forums before buying though. You may need one with a certain brand of pump or change the hoses for bio compatible ones.

Just google the make/model of car your looking at add the word forum.

Some excellent forums out there, Put dealers knowledge to shame.

Some are rubbish though and just want to extract money from you.

Someone said they needed to pay and join to get help. You dont need that. Look at another forum. Bound to be plenty.

At that age your getting into commonrail territory and need to be careful as it can be very costly if you get it wrong.

Older VW's are good but since 2004 they did a backwards step and no longer approve it.

It can eat through pipes and block filters at low temps.

Older japanese stuff the same, Old pajero's etc.

Checkout the bio diesel forums also. See what cars they recommend. I have looked into a bit a while back and its a big NO for mondeo TDCI's.
A few members have had disaster with some cars.

Fuel quality is also an issue. people have bought dodgy batches.

  • After spending the past 2 years running an old Astra and Corsa on veg oil, I got into making bio to see me through the winters.
I've now started running the wifes Chrysler Voyager 2.5 CRD on a 75% biodiesel 25% pump diesel mix.
2000 miles in, I've had an issue with fuel getting into the oil but suspect it's been caused by leaking injector seals. Still monotoring but replacing a couple of orings, this seems to have solved the problem.

Decide what car you like then have a look here.
    http://www.biomotors.co.uk/CarsVansD.html

Click on the make you want then look at the options avaliable. As a general rule, 1 tank means it could run on veg oil (so why bother with bio), 2 tank I take as being ok for bio (after further research via bio/veg forums and owners forums).

Using bio can reduce fuel economy so what may seem like a saving on the price per litre might not really be overall.
Factor in the risk (as said, sometimes you could buy some from a bad batch) and it may not be worth it.

I think that would be an issue for the OP. They would take the car in and they will say you need a new pump and injectors and a fuel system flush.

And not to run the car on it again.

The bill for that will probably be as much if not more than the cars worth.

Risky way to save a couple of £

FYI, the company I sell used cooking oil to sells biodiesel at 90p per litre. With diesel at 145.9 its a big saving but unfortunately I can't use it in my car.
