Getting Married on a good Friday?

Has anybody had or been to a Good Friday wedding?

I am thinking about this in 2014, There is only 2 Christians I know that would be invited and I am not sure what variation of it they follow TBH?

  • I'm not sure you would be able to as it is a Bank Holiday and I assume Registrar's wouldn't be working ...or I may be completely wrong lol

We got married 5 years ago on Good Friday. It was beautiful. It worked out really well for family that had 300+ miles to travel as they then had 3 days after the wedding whereas a Saturday one on a normal weekend would have meant travelling the next day. We had 2 devout Christians at ours and they certainly didn't see it as an issue. It meant we also got our venue hire fee knocked off as they were keen to get a wedding for that day.
  • Thanks Becs, Thats what I am thinking about, Alot of family is going to have to come to Lincolnshire from Kent, its a long old way!

We loved it and it also means guests get a nice long weekend still. As lovely as weddings are it still basically mens your guests usually only get Sunday to themselves before dashing back to work. Most of the relatives made a weekend of it so it was nice for my Mum to catch up with her brothers that she didn't see so much because of them living hundreds of miles away. It was also the most fantastic day weather wise! It was 20 degrees and glorious sunshine so not too hot as summer weddings can be. This year Good Friday falls on the same date as when we got married 5 years ago and it won't ever do hat again in our lifetimes so it feels really special.
  • Thats lovely! I wsa thinking of trying to find either a Hotel with a golf course or near one so my uncles can play golf over the weekend as they are all big golfers! Give my OH a chance to play with them before they go home!

Sounds a lovely idea! Not sure they'd do a church service that day but if ur not getting married in church then should be fine. And I bet u can get a registrar but might cost more

Lincolnshire's fee for 2012-2013 on a Bank Holiday for an enhanced ceremony at a licenced venue is £450.00.
    :)
  • Thanks Mrs Drink :) Not cheap is it! Think I'm just going to have to feed everybody on a value tesco multipack of snacks after haha!

  • Sounds good to me! Would family still need to take Thursday off to travel to get there for Friday?

We had ours on the Sat of a bank hol weekend and was great as everyone felt like they had a proper holiday and stayed for 2 nights without needing to take time off work!
