When I did a survey for greggs I told them that i was not happy with the aired pasties didn't even know it was a VAT issue, but must say I do not like lukewarm pasties and at lunchtime I don't have facilites for warming them up its a shame really that they can't supply them hotter as they are nice but I just can't eat a cool pasty, thats just my opinion0

Your choices then are to find out when they bake and turn up shortly after or lobby them to keep them warm and charge an extra 20% on them0 -
I buy the Greggs sausage rolls from Iceland. £1.50 for 4, they're a bargain and absolutely yummy! No more cold soggy rolls for me. Plus I find they over bake them (my preference) so I can have them exactly the way I like them. Been smoke free for 4 years!! :beer:0

Cornish pasties were invented to be eaten cold, with meat and veg at one end and jam at the other. It's a poor belly that can't warm up cold food..................
....I'm smiling because I have no idea what's going on ...:)

The only thing greedier than a Greggs customer, is Greggs itself.
I can't imagine the margins are huge on a 60p sausage roll in the first place - that 10p of VAT probably would represent half the GP for the item, so that's before ingredients, staff, premises, cooking, etc., etc.0 -

Shops that sell the pies and pastries that never sold the day before in the regular shops.
There's one in Botchergate in Carlisle.
Seems to just be cakes, bread and wonky-shaped stuff when I've gone past. Not been in though.British Ex-pat in British Columbia!0 -
if you know theres nothing left after 2 then go earlier
thats what me and my OH too
oh and they wont shut because pasties, sausage rolls and sandwiches arent the only things they sell you know!
oh and btw iceland sell greggs sausage rolls now, they do a pack of 4 so get one, cook them yourself and problem solved, never have to worry about them running out at greggs0 -
Cheers Naf for the clarification! I wanted to make sure I posed it as more of a question for clarification, and yours did the trick nicely
Never really in question whether Greggs food was safe, I was actually thinking the other way around - would it still be safe if it was maintained above 63 for the afternoon to benefit late diners? When would the 2hrs start from in that case?
Many thanks,
As long as they were kept hot above 65 they'd be fine safety-wise (although not necessarily quality-wise) for the rest of the day really.scotsman4th wrote: »Is there not any "next day" Greggs still on the go?

Yeah, I used to get a lot of stuff from that one while I still lived up in Carlisle. I remember it used to sell the pasties, and even had a microwave if you wanted them hot - fairly sure this used to be the case with all the Greggs shops - or at least Birketts which is what they used to be in Cumbria at least...
New budget will ruin the VAT exemption excuse though; The 'hot chicken tax' has just closed this particular loophole:

I *think* they used to be branded as 'Thurstons' when I lived in Yorkshire.
Re-branding makes my head hurt!
