Complaint about Comet

On Friday - we had a replacement fridge-freezer delivered by Comet - Whilst I was out at work - leaving my wife to take delivery
The old unit was taken away (pre arranged and paid for) - it had already been moved out of the kitchen into the conservatory - but the blokes who delivered the replacement refused to move the new one into the kitchen, take away any of the packing and when asked by my wife became abusive and threatening
Telling her that they were only paid to do a straight swap - not relocate !!
Eventually - they pushed the new unit near to the corner in the kitchen where it was supposed to fit - but wouldn't take it off it's expanded foam base - meaning that my wife had to wait 3 hours for me to come home before the 3 hours wait to switch it on could begin ...
This is the last time that we will buy from comet.

Was it a paid delivery from online?
If so, there terms do state that:
so if that's the case, I'd be writing and asking for my delivery money back.
No - it was "free" delivery - but I would still have expected the fridge to be put in to the normal "slot" in the kitchen, rather than (reluctantly) just dumped in the middle of the kitchen floor, and the packing to be removed - if not taken away ?0 -

Ah, so it was still delivered to the 'right' room?
Your original post stated that they refused to move it into the kitchen.
In which case, even if you'd paid the 21GBP for delivery, it would be ok, as to have it specifically where you want it (not just in the room), they charge more as part of their installation charge.
As for packaging, I guess this depends on what your free delivery was stated as including.0 -
I've bought a couple of large appliances from Comet over the last year or so - well, the fridge freezer was from Lasky's which is the same thing, and the washing machine from Comet.
On both occasions, all packaging was removed and the items placed in the correct room, and the old appliances taken away. I suppose it depends on the delivery drivers, but the ones I had on both occasions were great!0 -
I know it's not the point - but I think your meant to let freezers/fridges settle for at least a couple of hours before you switch it on after major moves.
So at least thats a kind of silver lining.
I think the issue I'd be talking to comet about if nothing else it attitude - if they were rude and threatening.
If you paid/didn't pay/ was/wasn't meant to get in installed etc - then there is still no need for them to get nasty0 -
I personally would complain, especially if they were abusive to a woman who was home alone. And I would have thought that packaging should be removed for proper disposal, especially something like polystyrene.
When we had a washing machine delivered by Currys, the delivery guys were really nice. The old one was out, the new one was in (exactly where I asked for it to be placed as we were plumbing it in), all the packaging was removed and taken away. All this was within the space of about 5 minutes! They were so good I was actually moved to contact Currys and say how good they were (though I never heard back!!).What is this life if, full of care, we have no time to stand and stare0 -
I had a similar experience but with John Lewis delivery men - they tried the same "leave the new appliance where we found the old one" line, after I thought I'd be helpful in pushing the old fridge out of the kitchen and in to the hallway.
Needless to say, when I got my new washing machine from Comet there was no way I was going to move the old one an inch!0 -
I eventually heard back from Comet - offering us £10 for our "displeasure" at the poor service !!0
