iMac or Macbook Pro/Air? If its a laptop do it yourself. Buy the memory from Crucial and you'll save serious money over Apples.
I've no experience of an iMac.0 -

Try this site (via Quidco)
download the scanner and perform a scan, you will then be given options and prices for the upgrade you want.
There are also instructions how to install the memory.
We have used these many times and highly recommend.0 -

Don't pay Apple to do it the cost will make your ears bleed!
I've upgraded the RAM in both my iMac and MacBook Pro and it's so easy. It really is a 5 minute job particularly on the iMac.
On the iMac there's a small cover on the bottom edge of the screen. Remove the cover and there are two spare memory slots. Buy the right memory from Crucial, put it into the slots and replace the cover. Done
I upgraded mine to 16GB so I had to remove the two 2GB and put four 4GB in.
The MacBook takes a little longer only because there are a few more screws to undo. There are two memory slots, one under the other. Pop out the old RAM pop in the new, screw the bottom back on the case and you're done.
Have a look on YouTube, there are tutorials, and you'll see just how easy it is!
I bought two 8GB kits from Crucial that cost £28:99 each for the iMac back in November. I don't know what prices are like at the moment. They have a tool on the site for working out which memory you need.
If you need help come back and I'll do my best. One by one the penguins are slowly stealing my sanity.0 -
kingston has suitable memories for macs, they are good and cheap, my reccomendation. if your mac is out of warranty already, then there is no point to go to apple.0

As above, if it is a MacBook or iMac go to Crucial's website and do the upgrade yourself. I upgraded my Macbook to 8gb for £25! I think Apple wanted closer to £100.0

Little wonder Apple's share price is near €600: they rely on muppets to pay them such fees to do a 2 minute job.0
