hello, hoping i can find some answers!!
i'm still having problems with my ipod nano, it's nearly 3 months since i bought it, and i still can't use it!! (if anyone's thinking of getting one - DON'T!)
i've been getting the 'usb device not recognised' (i started a thread about it a while back) but i'm still none the wiser, and getting more frustrated!
so now, i've deleted itunes, and emptied my recycle bin, and i want to start over again. I'm sure if apple provided an installation cd and user manual things would be a lot easier. I find the online guide quite baffling.
do i need to install drivers, as i think that was a big problem last time?
or just install itunes again? btw i've got xp.
hope someone can help,
many thanks!

This might be a stupid questions, but is the iPod Windows formated? If it's a mac one that might explain some of the problem.
Also are you using powered USB2 port? - my nano would not play with my old laptop that had USB1.
If you Google "USB Device not recognized apple ipod nano" there seems to be lots of folk had a similar problem and overcome them in different ways - you may find some useful simple ideas.
I've both a 3G and nano and not had any problems with them or iTunes - only the laptops (all HP Compaqs) that have driven me so crazy that I've got a Mac and have had to re-format my iPods and had no issues.

Manual:
Apple do provide manuals, but you have to download them. See the Apple web site, then pick wich generation of Nano you have to see the available documents.
Format
To quote from Apple's web site:1. On your iPod, select Settings > About. If you're using an older iPod with older iPod software (such as iPod Software 1.x), select Settings from the main menu.
2. Scroll down to the bottom of the screen.
If your iPod disk is configured for Macintosh, the serial number is the last item you'll see listed in the About screen. If the disk is configured for Windows, the last item you'll see is "Format: Windows."
Fixes
Have you tried the recommended solutions from Apples web site?0 -
thanks, i know you can download a manual, but it doesn't really tell you how to install it, just how to use the features. and i find the apple website complicated

i would prefer an actual book that tells me everything!
do i need to install drivers? i can't find an answer to that....
also my ipod battery is now completely dead, so i can't do much with it right now (no seperate charger grrr.) currently reinstalling itunes, so fingers crossed.
