Santander Zero Credit Card

I have a very low income. I have a credit rating of 999.

Despite my low income, I have a Santander Zero credit card. I think the APR is 19.9%. I can get up to £2000 credit on that card.

I guess I am in a good position then, I mean, nothing much I can do to improve my situation, but I don't know for sure.

I have £300 on credit already and I'm wanting to add another £800.

Grateful if, in fact, anyone has any tips that might help me save money. Thanks. Rich

    1) Don't waste money purchasing credit scores.

    2) Consider applying for a 0% purchases card, such as Tesco. It sounds like your credit history is fine so perhaps you have a good chance.

You don't say if this £800 is a one-off or not. I'm assuming it is and that you'd pay it down within the typical introductory offer that 0% purchase cards offer.

Don't want to sound patronising, but obviously it all has to be paid back eventually, so before you extend your credit you need to be sure you are living within your means which doesn't mean just meeting the minimums. Else you will rack up interest costs.
  • I would have to pay all the £800 straight away, but I'd have to get a loan or use a credit card to be able to pay that £800.

So, I just apply for another credit card and get 0% for a period. Simple as that. :c)

Yep, if whoever it is you are paying will take a CC (and without a fee).

If you've not had any searches recently and are short of time, I'd bang in a couple of applications.

Obviously we are focussing on the £800, but if the card you apply for also has a balance transfer offer, then you could consider transferring the £300 to the new card also.

(You say the £300 is "on credit", I'm assuming it's a CC.)

Don't get your hopes up - you say "very low income" but not exactly what it is. This will, of course, count against you.
  • Actually, the low income may have been a problem in the past. I was once refused an ASDA card. The Santander Zero mentions a minimum of £7500, I'm actually below that, but I was with Abbey at first.

Tesco mentions £5000 as the minimum income. I'm just above it. So, I might just get it.

Online application with TESCO was refused. I put down £433 per month that is £5196 per year income. I put down unemployed, which I am. I have already two credit cards, Santander Zero and a Barclays card. So, I'm apparently stuck with getting another credit card.

I have £300 on the Santanter credit card, nothing on the Barclays card. That's my only debt.

    Why was I refused?

It must, I suppose, have been because I put down unemployed. Which is kind of true, but I've been told I cannot work, so, I don't sign on. I wonder whether I would have succeeded if I put down "RETIRED".

I should have also included another £650 income that I'm getting as well.

Perhaps I should try again. Or, phone up.
