  • I'm not sure if it's the U.K version to be honest.

Microsoft Money 2007 is the U.K. version if you buy it somewhere like PC World.

Quicken is the one no longer updated in U.K.

There are very few alternatives, one is http://moneydance.com/
the other is to use an Excel spreadsheet.
My Mind wanders, if found please return.

Sorry i'll have to disagree to that. MS have confirmed on various sites that they no longer update Money for UK.

PC World, Amazon, and other big software vendors only have the 2005 version as that's the latest 'UK' version.

depends what you want to use it for. if all you need is keeping records of your current account runnings then just set up your spreadsheet using Excel. that's what ive done and works perfectly well.

i guess it depends on your spreadsheet skills though!

I use the American version of 2007. it is pretty good and you can change the currency to pounds. American bits of it don't work obviously, like tax calculator for example. If you are lucky your bank will allow you to download msmoney statements straight into the software, which really speeds things up. First Direct do it, Egg don't for example. It can project how poor you will be when you retire, even tell you when you are going to die (using insurance data and asking you a few questions!) You can experiment with different things like buying a house and see how it would effect things in the short and long term. In the states you can set it to download your account transactions and share prices automatically which must be amazing; our banks are way behind on this. I'd be interested to know what people actually use it for; for me it is a way of keeping track of all my accounts (I've got about 20 since MSEdom!) primarily, but I think it might be useful for planning in the future.

Thanks for that - I'll give the 07 version a whirl (trial version from MS)

Not sure what Microsoft Money does, but if it's free home budgeting / accounting software you're after, try http://www.macupdate.com/info.php/id/22468

This is the Mac version but if you go to the download site (via the "More Information" link) you can access the Windows version ... or you can access it directly here http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=167026&package_id=192694

    Hope this helps.

I've used MSMoney for many years and wouldn't be without it. Not sure that downloading bank transactions helps as I find I learn what's what as I input data day by day.

The UK version has auto update of share prices (including mutual funds and bonds) and that works brilliantly for me too.

Still haven't tried all the multitude of reports available, but the ones I have used are very intuitive and helpful.

But probably the best feature for me is the tracking of routine DDs/SOs and other regular payments and receipts. This has helped me chase up late and incorrect investment distributions on more than one occasion!
