First of all, my apologies for the word ignorant.

He should have left if you politely asked him to leave, you should not have had to ask him twice.

I can only still say that these are legitimate companies who do this.
The same at any town centre who ask for your bank details so that a monthly donation can be made. Its more cost effective than going round the doors once a month to put a quid in a tin.

You see I wouldn't even give my bank details out even in a town centre. Maybe thats just me? I don't agree that logit charities should do this either in town centres or even at peoples front doors. I do agree though that its obviously easier for them to handle because they don't travel around every month collecting cash.

So therefore why don't the charity bosses get the banks involved and ask to have a charity counter (all charities would have to register) in all bank branches and you can do it through your bank (pay for instance a NatWest charity account number) as a direct debit who then pay the charities on a monthly basis? Obviously the banks I hope wouldn't charge for this and I personally believe they would get a hell of alot more donations every month because it gives people like me a piece of mind that the bloke at the door is not a conman? They could knock on your door and explain to go in to any bank and pay there charity £2 a month etc etc?

    What do you think?

Waste of time if you don't complete the process at the door. If you ask people to do something later, even if it's only to phone or go online or post a form, they'll say they will, but then they won't.

I dont fill any charity bags either because if you read the small print on them its usually a company who give a small 'donation' to the charity, the charitys name is in big letters on the front of the bag so its a bit misleading. I think the only genuine ones are the British Heart Foundation and the Air Ambulance ones. Other than those mine go directly to the charity shops in town.

But personally I would never give my bank details to anyone knocking at the door on in the street.

I know this is off topic to the original subject but
I believe the Mind ones are genuine / direct to them as well. That said I always drop them directly in the charity shop direct, as then they can claim gift aid on whatever they raise from my donated goods.
