If it's a small lawn Wickes do a "Carbon Steel Lawn Rake" for £6.49.0

You wouldn't need to plug it in anywhere a small lawn shouldn't take much raking and exercise is a wonderfully cheap and effective way to stay healthy isn't it?0

And for the OP Black & Decker used to do one for around £20. Oops, they are around £60 now. I'll carry on borrowing my neighbours.:cool:0 -
Just done that job this morning!
Scarifiers seem to be very expensive now.
I got one from Tesco Direct for £20 in Autumn 2010, but they don't do a cheap one any more.
End of autumn is the time to buy them cheap. Spring isn't!British Ex-pat in British Columbia!0 -

I know and I suggested an alternative didn't I?:T0 -
B&Q have a couple and we got the larger of the two electric ones.
Only used it a couple of times last summer but seemed to work well. Only issue is it pulls out so much thatch that the collector fills up after 3 lines of the garden.
According to other reviews I read most people ended up not using the collector and ended up using a rake or a blower.0 -
The guy on the local radio gardening programme said last week that the time for lawn raking was Autumn as in the spring you will damage the new grass coming up which causes more harm than good.0

I've heard the same as Wellused, or been told not rake lawn, I do suspect it depends on the lawn and what the issue is. If for example you have moss (as I do) then I would think giving it a rake will assist any new growth as opposed to hinder it. If you have lots of moss the new shoots wouldn't get started / established. Slighty OT.
To assist the OP would it be possible to hire one? You normally get a better bit of kit and don't have to fork out a fortune.0 -
Rake, then weed and feed.. mostly because I've got more moss than grass!Well behaved women rarely make history.0
