BOS Ultimate rewards card Emergency cover

I have no hot water in the house:

I've taken the option to contact the Ultimate rewards emergency cover on my Bank of Scotland card to get someone to come out and fix it. They are due to come out today between 8am and 5pm.

I have a feeling the repairs will exceed the £250 limit of the cover.

However, my wife is also a Bank of Scotland Ultimate rewards card holder and I was wondering if the fees do exceed the £250 limit we could activate her side of the card to cover the cost.

Thoughts?

I'd be amazed if it did, but you could ask.

Suggestion: Open a new URCA in joint names, getting joint benefits for one fee, and redesignate the single name accounts to something else.

Never thought of that. I would doubt they would give us joint (double) benefits though.

No. The Home Emegency cap of £250 remains.

But you would get joint breakdown cover.

You would only be paying once for the travel insurance and other benefits.

You'd still get your fiver rebated (although only once).

So you'd be a tenner a month better off.

Heating engineer came out, it requires a new diverter valve. Couple of hour job by all accounts.

I'm guessing here, but it's looking like it's going to cost well in excess off £250 due to labour and parts. However, the engineer said he would order the parts and get a re-visit booked for the job to be carried out.

The company called today to say they would be out between 8am and 5pm tomorrow.

Bank of Scotland haven't contacted me however to discuss any potential additional fees. Presumably if the guy comes out early in the morning and does the job, they can't then call me asking me to pay up without me agreeing before it's fitted.??

Guy comes out at 6.30pm, no phone-call what so ever. Nevermind I'm happy he appeared.

Says he only has a rubber washer and not the diverter valve required to fit it. He decides the whole of the bottom part of the boiler needs replacing. Nightmare!

Illegal? I wouldn't have thought so, but it will be in breach of their T&C's.

Whilst I sympathise with your situation, I don't think BOS are being unreasonable here.
Whilst my posts do not constitute financial advice, I am always, without fail, 100% right! :D

I thought to cancel and start the claim again under my partners card would be perfectly allowable considering I've lost £200 of my £250 excess with absolutely no work being carried out.
