I wanna stop my cats from suddenly weeing in the house

Not sure our cats would be too impressed with being locked in BUT if things don't improve it may be something worth considering as it would be worth it if it worked.
Only problem is that cat litter trays around the house are still not ideal with potential purchasers walking around! Also, if not allowed out they tend to sit in the kitchen, so whenever the nasty cat tries to get in it would just scare them to death again.
Have tried lots of times to get it with the garden hose just to scare it from coming back again, but it always manages to just run out of reach :mad:0 -
Another thing to consider is moving their feeding bowls as the nasty cat may be able to smell the food & that's what it's after. It sounds as if your catflap is into the kitchen, which I guess is where you feed them?
Litter trays are never particularly nice, but if you do go down that route I've found the clay/clumping one is the best to keep smells to a minimum.
Btw I have sent you a pm.

In addition to the above, before you have your viewers round, put a drop or two (no more though!) of perfume or essential oil on an unseen part of your radiator. (Unseen part, in case it discolours the rad in any way) I find that tends to mask any smells quite well - Providing your rads are on of course!

I sympathise - I've got 12 of the little furry bleed3rs and one has taken to weeing on the newspaper that I put down to protect my floor from cat food spillages! He even weed in the bowl of cat bix the other day! Nice! Tried the surgical spirit and wash powder, but the stupid thing must just hold his nose or summit!
Mind you I think he's brain damaged cos he runs into the front room wall every morning! :rotfl:
One of the others squats over the drain outside for a wee! Why have I got such numpties?!

gertybertyangel - your post made me laugh! :rotfl: There's just no explaining cats sometimes!
We've already got 2 oil burners, 2 glade plugins and an odour neutralising spray but to be honest makes little difference. Brewing coffee help for about 5 minutes until the coffee smell dissipates, same with cooking.
Think we need to get fish and chips from the chip shop just before viewers come round as that is all I can think of that might properly mask the smell for half an hour

That's brilliant...and I too sympathize because we've got 9 and you really do see some odd behaviour in our multi cat household. One of ours persistently wees on the floor by one of the doors so I'll try the washing powder & surgical spirit. It seems to have got much worse since we took in a deaf ferral kitten that had been left behind in our garden so I might try the anti-stress stuff too since wierd deaf cat likes to hang out in the same area of the house that wee-ing cat does.... hmmm!

Yippee!! Proud to be dealing with my debts :j0 -
While on that Vet site I also ordered some of their cosmic catnip to make some toys for my cats and its like napalm! My cat was tearing at the jiffy envelope before I had even opened it and just a sprinkle on the floor had her doing somersaults for hours....
Baby socks filled with split peas and a teaspoon of catnip and sew up the end, saves a fortune and they are much much stronger than the crappy ones from the pet shop0 -
My vet told me that once they have started weeing on an area, the others will keep doing it to keep their smell on top (so to speak!).
I was recommended to wash the area with bicarb of soda followed by white spirit or meths (depends on the surface). Once you have got rid of the smell that the cats are competing over, they stop having to mark on top of it.
If you have a foreign cat trying to get in through your cat flap, then sellotape the catch down so he can get in without a collar on and hide behind the door with a water pistol. When he is halfway through the cat flat then give him a full face of water - he will never poke his little nose through your cat flap again (it worked for us!).
The water pistol also works if your cats are weeing/spraying in a certain area - I give mine a quick shot of a water pistol and they run for it! It works for everything, including clawing furniture, savaging carpets, savaging each other, jumping on kitchen work surfaces, stealing from the bin etc.
I now only have to pick up the water pistol and they will stop whatever they are doing!
The only exception is my youngest who thinks it is a game and tries to eat the water - but he also loves the shower, bath, sink and washing machine!
Hormones did absolutly nothing for my old rescue cat - but I know it works for some cats. The younger one is so laid back he is horizontal so I don't suppose we would notice there!
He is currently asleep in my handbag!

Pusscat your post creased me up...cats are *so* strange. My mums cat is very laid back & she finds it asleep in odd places, but lately it's taken to sleeping on her head! Not sure who is more bonkers...
I'm amazed at the difference the Feliway diffuser makes with my cat, she's changed so much in such a short time.0 -
All your replies are giving me a good laugh - nice to hear others have such mad cats as us :rotfl:
I can just imagine the shock the first time you found a cat in your handbag and weren't expecting it!

be careful with the water pistol treatment - it can lead to them just associating something nasty (the water) with YOU, not what they were doing...0
