Hastings Direct has quoted 80% more than last time!

Hi,

I know insurance has increased but just got my buildings and contents insurance through and it's 80% up on last time! We got a mega cheap deal when I switched to Hastings Direct last year £133 + £35 cashback and this year it is £241.

If you are with Hastings Direct, have you had your quote through?

Do these companies entice you in, then increase it that much in the second year?

Gonna do some comparing now! Such a rip off!

Contained within an offer which you don't have to accept. So how have you been ripped off?

I meant if people just accept quote as a lot do, they will get ripped off. I've posed 2 questions and just want them answering not people critiquing what I have wrote.

We got a good deal through our bank - under £200. The following year it was up to over £400. I just went elsewhere. Most companies do good introductory offers - it it increases substantially, just switch the following year.
Same goes for a lot of things, including car insurance. My parents got their car insurance renewal in and it was over £400. I shopped around. got a like for like quote through Quidco and after they get their £80 back through Quidco, their insurance will have cost them £120. You have to just shop around.

Most companies do this. I think they just hope people will be complacent and just let them run on from one year to the next - and a lot of people do.

Thank you jackieb. I thought so but the increase is quite a lot. Not the way to go about it, if they were to keep custom. Ar well, back to shopping around then!

A lot of people don't have access to the internet (like my parents) and some people just aren't aware. It's a shame, and a bit of a pain to shift about, but it is usually worthwhile in the end. I know, you'd think companies would reward loyalty.

That is so true, and I forget that not everyone has access to the internet. Ringing around is such a pain! Anyway, thank you for your time!

I think it comes down to what the words 'rip off' mean to different people. Personally I don't see it as a rip off because you don't have to accept. You are free to shop around and vote with your feet.

My parents didn't used to shop around for any of their insurances and they paid for their laziness. My Dad naively thought his bank would get him the best deal on their B&C every year. It steadily rose each year and was up to £700 when fate showed me their renewal price days before the renewal was due. I had to actually show him on their PC how easy it was to get prices and got it down to just over £300.
He got all cross at the premiums he had paid over the years and wanted to complain as he felt ripped off.
I asked him how had he been ripped off. He had a choice to accept or not the renewal premium and he chose not to shop around and just accept it. No rip off had taken place because he had a choice.
:heart2: Love isn't finding someone you can live with. It's finding someone you can't live without :heart2:
