Weekend in Bangkok - advice?

Later this march my girlfriend and I will be having a weekend break in bangkok and will fly from Phuket.

Does anyone have any advice on where would be best to stay, sites to see considering we will only be there for a couple of days?

Can anyone recommend a good hotel for those on a budget?

Cannot help on the hotel front as we stayed as part of a packet.

We went on the river that was very good value. You can get an all day ticket for just over a pound or pay about 30p for a ticket. You can get on and off as you want. This will keep you cool as it will be very humid and hot..

Have a look at this website, we found it very helpful.

    Enjoy.

I recommend a trip to watch the kick boxing at either Rajadamnern or Lumpini stadiums. I found watching the crowd itself to be fun, especially the bookie with a washing board covered in mobile phones.

for budget hotels stay in the backpackers area - Banglaphu (sorry cant remember spelling). I stayed at Vientai hotel and another one just along from it in the past. All less than £20/night. But depends on your budget and what quality you want.

Visit the weekend Chatuchak market - opens SUnday. For shopping also go to the MBK centre - open 7 days from 10am (?) - 10pm. Visit the 5th floor food court - its amazing.

Also visit the Sea World Centre - under a really impressive posh shopping centre - Siam Centre- all near the Sky train National stadium stations.

The Sea life centre is amazing - do the special pass if they still do them that includes the boat ride (yes a boat ride in Bangkok city centre!!) and 2 movie showings - really awesome!.
