Blinking screen on Windows 7 problems

Hi, I am very sure this has been asked before but will give it a go here to the people in the know who have been helpful to me in the past.

Several days ago I had to reinstall Windows 7 Ultimate due to a corrupted hard drive

Not the end of the world though and I reinstalled everything, updated windows, updated graphics (onboard geforce 6100) driver to the latest one, in fact did everything you should when you reinstall windows.

However my problem is when I try to set my 19" LCD screen to anywhere near its native resolution 1360x768 (recommended apparently) it causes all sorts of problems to firefox, thunderbird etc with what I can best describe as a blinking screen. I have updated the LCD driver as well, no use. I have also tried to change the resolution and/or screen refresh rate in nvidia control panel as well, none of it works and the blinking remains.

The only way I can get it to stop is to go at 800x600 resolution. This is extremely annoying as before the reinstall the PC worked fine at the old resolution, online gaming worked as well.

So has anyone any ideas?

If you installed the updated graphics driver using Windows Update, see if there's one available on NVidia's site instead.
How do I add a signature?

Yes done that, to be honest I gave up and went back to XP. Guess what, same problem.

I really dont know what to do, Ive done everything apart from change motherboard. There must be someone out there who has had this problem?

Hi, your video card soundls like it has gone - just coincidence that you had other issues at the same time. To test just put in a different video card to replace the current one - or takeover from the built-in video card.

Also, did you try a different monitor?

Strangely enough I had an old card, my 7300GT up in the loft, slotted it in and the problems have gone. It all seems so odd that a lot of things went wrong at the same time.
