It would be based on any care and/or mobility needs rather than your diagnosis.0

Only the very severest cases of asthma would normally lead to care, or mobility needs.
Can you usually not walk 50 yards?
Do you require someone with you at all times out of doors?
Do you suffer attacks which you can't medicate yourself?0 -
I have copd and brittle asthma and i am a frequent visitor to resuss and intensive care along with arthritius in my back and hands. Most days i am out of breath and can not get dressed i cant get anything as im only 42.
When you do go to hospital the social care workers just look after the older people. I can not work or climb the stairs without nearly passing out, so if you do have life threatning asthma good luck its like a lottery!!!0 -
Probably not since we still have to pay prescription charges for asthma!0

Personally I would make an appointment with the CAB, they have specialists . I printed off a form & filled in with pencil, what I found was I had made quite a few mistakes. The worse one was I put 3 days I went out & needed help, when in fact I need help for 7days a week. I just cannot manage to get out more often due to pain & fatigue.0

whats paying for scripts got to do with it?
OP, it is very difficult to claim for respiritory conditions.
you can claim for your care and mobility needs for asthma if present.
notiably, youll be rejected at first.
keep a diary for 14days, of all your care/mobility needs daily struggles.
compile evidence, spiromitry results from when you go to asthma consultant, lung function tests, all recent ITU HDU and hospital admissions, this gives them the severity of lung function, frequency of admissions to give them idea of how severe you asthma.
supporting letter from GP consultant. (does your GP know you have care needs mobilty needs? i have to be question at my GP every 12months about how i am at home how i cope etc)0 -

Asthma is not recognised as a serious illness. Why should people have to pay for inhalers you cannot live without, other illness are exempt from charges. I have never understood why some are and some aren't.0 -
Asthma is seen as a serious illness, they will never be free while the drug companies can make a fortune out of patients paying for inhalers.
. People with Brittle asthma/asthma can and do claim DLA if they have care and mobility needs.0 -

Most people have to pay for prescriptions, not just people with asthma. With a prepayment certificate everything's covered for £10 a month, not particularly budget breaking.0 -
I totally agree that you need to gather your medical evidence together, not only will this save time (as DWP will not have to request it) but it should confirm brittle asthma. This is considered by the DWP to be a severe form of asthma and their guidance (link below) suggests there would be high rate mobility consideration and some care considerations.
