    well you didn't go out!

I can't manage buses on my own need someone with me,
I use a BB parking space, but more often have to use a normal space if none are available, which is awkward but it happens.

I do rememeber when my son was a baby, folding down the pushchair with one hand and baby in the other arm.. just like millions of other mothers, but i got slated in another post for even suggesting this.

even when i do have someone with me for the bus, if the disable/pram space is full with buggies, that's it no go, as for asking a parent to move the buggy....the abuse is never worth it. And no the bus drivers don't help

Well I had my first shopping trip to Asda today with my Daughter on my own!

I called them before I set off and asked if I would be able to have some help if I couldn't get parked up near the trolley bays and they were very helpful! I got there and all the disabled spots had gone (quite a few had no badge displayed!) Any way I parked in the parent and child part of the car park, but managed to get a spot quite near the store. I called in from my mobile and asked if somebody could come to my car with a trolley as I didn't want to leave my Daughter in the car when I went to collect a trolley and carrying her in her seat with the oxygen is next to impossible (especially after having a caesarian section and struggling to carry!)

A lady came out straight away with a trolley and helped me get the car seat secure and put the oxygen in the trolley! All in all a very good experience and well done to Asda for having staff that will help, they will certainly be having my custom every week now! :T

It certainly is a nice feeling, the lady who helped couldn't do enough for me and told me to ring again next time and they would be happy to do what they can to help.

I found the thought of going shopping with my Daughter quite daunting and I had worried how I would manage on my own, but after today its one less thing to worry about!

  • Of course I have shopped in a car with multiple small children. Its been happening since cars & supermarkets became prevalent in the late 60's and the beginning of the out-of-town retail park sites in the 1970s. No non-disabled person with or without children needs anything of the kind, they may want / wish / prefer / covet / fancy / crave / hanker for / lust after or yearn for .. .. .. but they don't need one.

If you see a """BB owner RUN to the shop to do chores""" use the video cam on your mobile, photograph the car / reg / badge and athletic owner and submit your evidence to the local BB issuing authority. If they are guilty then both the BB and any relevant benefits authority should informed and all benefits withdrawn immediately. That's for the authorities to decide, I would have no problem whatsoever with that happening.

Sorry Riche, you are totally wrong.
For one thing, parking spaces have as you said been the same size since the 1960's however, cars have not. With all the EU legislated saftety requirements, teh size and wheelbases have grown quite a lot and now fill the bays. Take the Ford S-Max for example, the width is now 1.884 MM, the Qashqai 1,780. In the sixties the massive Ford Zephyr was only 1,759! I remember a few weeks ago, looking at a Triumph Dolomite Sprint in the car park and thinking "that was a big car when I had one" but now it looks tiny!

Now, add to that the space to open the doors to get the child out of his car seat and into the buggy whilst not getting driven over by the local idiots going too fast. It IS a need, the same way its a need for disabled to be able to open the doors wide enough.

More cars on the road, more cars filling out of town supermarket car parks, all crushed together, of course M & B NEED more spece for safety and ability.

Yes, I challenged him, got him to prove it was his badge with the picture and got a mouthfull of abuse from him. Next time I see the car (small town) the number of the badge and his car reg WILL be taken and reported, don't you worry about that!

You are right about flthe size of modern cars Denny. Mine is 2.035m wide, the disabled spots help prevent the doors from being dinked in car parks.
  • Just one other thing, don't do as I did :_0
I deliberatly did not park on double yellow lines because I thought it was a dangerous place to leave the car, so I put it in a loading bay. Yep, Got a parking tivket.
My own fault should have read the booklet properly that comes with the Blue Badge. No parking in loading bays allowd LOL :-)

not exactly rocket science that though is it?
When your life is a mess, stop and think what you are doing before bringing more kids into it, it's not fair on them.

Thank you for such an inciteful comment. Sorry to have wasted some part of your very important day having to reply to my last comment. (Sarcasm off)

If it's not from the council or police, but a pirate parking company, it and any subsequent threatening letters can be ignored. See the parking ticket forum.
