Help, finding insurance policies for confused brother!

My dad's brother is in a nursing home, and is terminally ill. He has had a personality disorder for years and years. This led to him burning old papers, including insurance policies etc. He has some savings (approx 6 grand or so) but his care is covered by the state. Trouble is, my dad is going to have to sort out the funeral in the next few months or so, and doesn't know how to go about the legal side of things. Dad is the next of kin, and brother does have a funeral plan, but only a very basic one. How can we find out if his mum took out insurance on his life, which we think she would have most probably done.
Does any of his left over savings go to my dad as next of kin, cos if it does, then he can use this to top up the funeral plan to cover the costs. Dad is not wealthy, and needs to know so he can make the proper plans!
Any help or advice welcomed!!

Hi - suggest you look at the site for the Unclaimed Assets Register
https://www.uar.co.uk
and for a fairly nominal cost they can track down assets investments and savings which have not been claimed.0 -
Thanks, will have a look at that now!
Might come back with some more queries. This will probably not be simple to sort out, due to his 'personality issues!:hello:  please play nicely children !0
