whats wrong with me car ?

Options
ok so my car has started making a noise i think its from rear wheel behind me possible front wheel but if i had to bet i would say back / its a dub dub dub noise wich gets faster as wheels turns faster with sspeed. once again its not constant but make a noise with each revolution of the wheel soo im ruling out wheel bering ? also it gets slightly louder when brakes are applied. also it has rear disc breaks which are corroded now would that cuase the noise ? the discs have been like that since i got car and tbh were same on my last car but were still fine.

its a 2002 scenic diesel

any ideas ?

could be anything but first off would get a tyre center to check to see if theres a nasty bulge in the tyre wall or near the tyre rim last thing you want is it coming off the rim at say 60mph with a car full.

then check tread deapth. (do you have a named driver on the car) this sound used to happen when my bro in law had taken a local rally using the H bar often.

check the inner rim and side wall, any bulges that are prominant of a defective tyre could be catching the suspension arm, look at the suspension arm to see if there a clean shiny patch on it where the try ratates that would give on indication the tyre has a bulge.

if nothing can be seen, then i would suggest looking at wheel bearing, brake pad fallen out of place, or wheel nuts not tight enough wheel weight dropped off no balancing, buckled wheel or hub and suspension spring?

i've read this a few times, and dont understand it... think im probably blind and mad though.:T

i'd be checking tyres, brake disc or shoes and wheel bearing. and if i was a betting man i'd be putting money on wheel bearing. but it could be a number of things.
  • well im hoping not wheel bearing as thats not cheep on this thing lol but will check tyre out. will try and get tyre off check it for anyhhing obvious it is old soo could be that could be a weight fallen of the wheel soooo if cant see anything will stick me spare on and drive round for a bit see if noise still there

putting it politely i was getting to this.

named driver is of a certain age showing off to his firnds that the hand brake can spin the car in a carpark causing uneven tread wear.;)

Check the tyres checked. If you have super-budget tyres, they can cause this, even if you cant see anything. I know of at least 1 person who has fixed this with 2 new tyres after spending £500+ replacing wheel bearings....

well as i feared it was the brake discs they were looking pretty past it be honest lol and i would say they would of failed next mpot in july. soo getting done on friday :) managed to get discs and pads and the discs have the wheel bearing inside them on this car for £93 for both sides plus £50 to fit by my garage. soo wasnt to bad in ended about 145 quids.

Get the wheel bearings looked at too. The sound you describe sounds just like a failing wheel bearing and if you don't get them replaced they can lock while you're driving - I knew a bloke who ignored his, it locked, put the car in a spin and took him off the road.

Get it checked out and nurse it around town only. Avoid high speed roads.
