Problem with static?

Hi all
I am trying to set up my PC in a room on the ground floor of my house, whilst doing this I noticed some dust in the air vents so hoovered it off using my hoover (a Dyson), now, when playing music I get like a stuttering, and also the internet would not work even though I had 4-5 bars on the signal....
I have taken out 1 1gb stick of RAM and this now allows me to connect and play music (although stuttering is still happening every so often).
It also seems when I place lid on the side of the PC (the same bit I hoovered) the mucis problem increases (although I can still browse). Could I have charged the lid?
some more information what could be the problem...
I am using a wireless keyboard and mouse
The room is at the end of the kitchen (although no appliances were running (apart from fridge)
There was a lot of styrofoam (used to trasnport flat packs) in the same room
I have moved the hoover and the foam, but every now and again in stutters, I am really confused!
anyone got any ideas what could be causing this?
Update: it appears to be my wireless card as when I disabled it, all works ok, just about to update it now and see if that helps

I guess there are a lot of possible causes, but I don't think static is one of them. The PC almost certainly has a metal chassis, so it will be impossible for static to build up and remain - it wil simply dissipate.
One possibility (given that the situation improves when you remove one memory stick) is intermittent memory errors. You can check for this by running Memtest - which comes built into most Linux LiveCD's or can be downloaded on its own for free.0
