Lost diamond from Engagement ring - faulty ring?

(If you got it replated you SHOULD see a difference).
*Edit* Whoever gave you the ring spent a lot of money on it.
Thanks, that is nice to know!!!0 -
I had my engagement ring for 3 years before I lost the first diamond out of it, I put it down to catching it when we moved house.
Then a year later I lost another, I went to a jewellers who quoted a fortune to fix it, but also said that the gold on the claws had probably weakened.
I wore that ring constantly and never took it off.
Cleaning chemicals, day to day wear and tear etc. can weaken the gold. I've since had to have a replacement ring, which I take off for work, cleaning. I'm not risking ruining my ring again.0 -
That's a really difficult one. When DH and I were looking for a diamond ring for me one jeweller said that the only way for that diamond to truly be safe was to have it inset into metal so there was metal surrounding the whole stone. Problem is stones don't tend to sparkle as much when they're set like this. I went for a claw set ring in the end but even the slightest knock can loosen the stone so I do get the setting checked and tightened every year. Looks like you may have just been very unlucky, feel really bad for you.
Have you thought about claiming on your home insurance for it?0
