Grand Prix Holiday

I've been to silverstone for the British Grand Prix a few times, and can say it's the best experience and has a fantastic atmosphere. We only went the saturday and the sunday, but I'm sure the Friday is just as good. The traffic is really well managed, so don't worry about staying slightly further a field.
We'd love to go back as it's been a few years, but we just can't afford it at the moment.

Many thanks for all your fab help! It has given me lots to look at.
Regarding the Abu Dhabi packages, it wasn't the high end hospitality packages I was looking at (hes worth it but not that much!). One of the ones I saw was about £765 each which included the tickets for weekend races and food and soft drinks throughout the day sat in area which can be air conditioned etc.
I hadnt thought of Belgium to be honest but I will look into that now, especially as the weather should still be ok. The great thing about posting on MSE is getting all the different advice and personal experiences which is what I needed as I am not too clued up on Grand Prix and I really want this to be a surprise without asking him too many questions.
I am still reading up and checking out more destinations so anymore advice would be fantastic!
Thanks once again folks

Personally, I'd say Monza everytime. Nowhere matches it for atmosphere - particularly when the tifosi hit the track for the podium ceremony.
No need to pay a tour company as tickets (& hospitality packages) are usually available via the circuit's own site.
Italy lays on extra trains to Monza (& free buses from the station to & from the track) so it is possible to stay slightly further from the track than at many GPs. The weather is usually good (OK we got soaked in 2008? but that was really unusual).
If you buy a 3-day ticket it often includes a free pitwalk.

We went Nurburgring last year (Lewis won, yay!). We chose there because it's drivable from the UK and a good time of year. It was abolutely fan-bloody-tastic.
Unfortunatley this year the German GP is in Hockenhiem which is a bit too far, but I certainly wouldn't mind driving to Spa, infact we passed it on the way back. We would go this year but it's the weekend before DD's first day at secondary school, it would be a bit cruel to not be there
TBH, the best time of year to book for GP tickets is around Christmas, they have discounts for alot of the races, we got weekend passes for £83 each.Accept your past without regret, handle your present with confidence and face your future without fear0 -
Hi
I realise you said no to Monaco, but thought I'd post in case someone else was interested.
We've been luckly enough to go to Monaco GP twice. Booked Easy Jet flights from Liverpool, first year it was a special bithday and we had seats near the pits, booked from the Monaco GP site. We found a really cheap 1 bedroomed apartment in Nice and booked it for a week with the F1 weekend in the middle.
Nice is a lovely place to stay and we explored everywhere, it was $1 on the bus to go all over the place-that was 2 years ago.
Think it was about $4 to go on the train from Nice into Monaco and takes about 20 mins or so.
The second year we booked tckets for "the bank" it was a bit of a nightmare getting up there and trying to get confortable. But the view was fantastic, and I think the tickets were quite reasonable.
Again found an appartment in a different part of Nice and booked direct.
So basically this was out summer holiday with the F1 in the middle!
Hope that helps someone, have a great time anyway.:j0
