VHS-c to Mac/Pc but no camcorder

Is there any way to transfer our old VHS-c and Hi-8 camcorder tapes to Mac/Pc without the camcorder?

Or should I send them off to a firm to do.

    i almost got a VHS done at jessops the other month ,they would have wanted @£34 for a 90min tape,£20 first hour and £14 each hour after and two weeks to do it
    but a mate stepped in with his DVD/VHS combi recorder and done it for me(22 year old wedding video)
    there or their,one day i might us the right one ,until then tuff
