Old dispute and current flat sale

We had a personal dispute with our neighbours two and a half years ago... and by personal I mean they loathed us and we loathed them, so they were deliberately obstructive about everything. Anyway, we threatened them with legal action at one point because they were obsessed with us, and they stopped what they were doing... all ended two and a half years ago and we've just ignored each other since then.

So, now we're selling, and we have to disclose info about disputes, and I'm wondering how much this old dispute will put people off and whether it will affect the value of our flat. There have been no other problems and none of the other people in the building have had a dispute.

The people who used to own this place actually made an offer, and we thought we'd got a sale, but they started trying to get the price down by £20,000 because they claimed the place was worthless as there had always been disputes with the neighbours we didn't get along with... even when they lived here... interestingly they didn't mention any such dispute when they sold to us three and a half years ago. :rolleyes2

So, would a two and a half year old dispute put people off?

  • I do believe you have to disclose that info as in the enquires before contract there is a section asking if there has been dispute with neighbours. I seem to remember someone claimed against a seller once that they had not given info about a dispute and claimed against the previous owner and won damages.

it may put some people off it may not, but i think you should declare the info especially if the council was involved.
