How many photographs do you regularly take? 1 or 2 or 100-200 a day?
How many photos can you store on your current 4GB card?
Would you have a laptop with you?
Personally, I take 4 x 8GB cards, use the maximum quality settings on my DSLR and that is good for >3,000 photos.0 -
I normally use a bunch of 1GB cards, admittedly I have had them quite a while, but I do that to avoid losing all my photos if one goes wrong, but my camera is 4mp.
Your camera instructions should tell you approximately how many photos you can get within 1GB and each setting. I took about 1000 photos when we were on safari for a week and a week in Mombassa, I think that was about 800 in the week on safari and 200 on the beach. Really depends where you are going and what you are going to be doing, but a good idea to take too many rather than too few.
If you can take a storage device with you and transfer them to that it would give you a back up too. What is this life if, full of care, we have no time to stand and stare0 -
Just take an extra 1 or 2 cards. They are as cheap as chips and take up no space at all. Its always best to have a spare.0

Agreed. Have a few card that will hold several hundred images each. If you have one big card and it gets damaged, you'll lose everything on it, better to have a few so that if that happens, you won't lose everything. Many cards come with a plastic holder to keep them in, so it will keep the contacts clean, and is worth having.
Three 4GB cards would probably meet your requirements.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the In My Home MoneySaving, Energy and Techie Stuff boards. This is an academic question. You won't even bother to get the camera out of its case, because undoubtedly you'll be busy on other matters...0
