Career Development Loan vs Bank Loan?

Another useful piece of info for those considering CDLs is that they can also be used for some part time courses (I'm guessing this is likely to be limited to the vocational courses but the banks are, as ever, the people to ask for up-to-date confirmation).

I'm doing the Bar Vocational Course part time over 2 years and Barclays would let me take out a CDL on that - the only limit being that I could only take out a loan for some of the course fees. I wasn't able to take out an element for living costs.

So if you are doing a part-time postgrad course it's worth checking with the bank whether that course is covered for a CDL - at the end of the day getting a loan for up to 80% of your course fees that's effectively interest-free during the course itself is not to be sniffed at!

As a good example, I borrowed £6000 towards my (horrendous) BVC fees and still owe the same now, so I have been saving bits and pieces towards the fees since late 2005 - I plan being to use that plus a second loan this summer to reduce the amount I owe and pay less interest. But having two years of my course to try and find funds knowing the amount I owe remains the same has been a godsend.

Hi - I have read this form with interest. Am in the same situation and have decided that the best option for me, would be to take out a Graduate loan to cover the course fees (I will be studying part time) and meet the repayments as I go. Am just looking for some advice on what I should put on the application form as to my reason for needing the loan? Surely if I put that I am going back to study this will lead to me being turned down? Any suggestions greatfully received - thank you!!
