Hi there folks, would any of you guys know of any sites that can be used to find houses for rent which don't simply link to agents, such as the right move site etc.

Its my number 1 bit of advice to mates looking to rent up here - avoid the agents.
im my area at least most of them are blood sucking scum.
when i go to view a flat/house for rent its as much about me evaluating the land lord as it is about price and house and them evaluating me.
i will not rent from someone who comes across as a !!!! or a dodger- ive not been stung yet and ive rented a few houses but i have turned down quite a few lovely cheap houses in nice areas due to fear of getting messed about by LL
Ive always rented off gumtree or the local university notice boards (ive never gone to the local uni but many have online sections) and most private land lords are more than happy not to have to rent to students.0 -
Be wary of gumtree. It hides a multitude of scam artists (ie 'diplomats' who 'get their secretaries to mail keys on payment') and people who offer homes for 'free' (but want you to be their special friend.) Place an ad, as landlords do look and wonder if they should rent their flat. Local newspapers are good, and still exist. Notices in cafes/shops where you think you might find like minds. Good luck. It's cold out there.0

Your best bet for private rents is the local rag.Hi there! We’ve had to remove your signature. It was so good we removed it because we cannot think of one so good as you had and need to protect others from seeing such a great signature.0
