Help raising money for a Charity Event I am doing

For what it worth, OH climbed the 3 Peaks a couple of years ago and used the opportunity to raise money for charity.
The only difference was he paid all expenses out of his own pocket and so all money donated went to the charity.
OP - if you seriously want to do this to raise money for charity then I would have no issue with sponsoring you provided I felt the money you raised was going 100% to the charity for its purposes and not partly to cover the cost of the trip2014 Target;

Thanks for all of your responses, it is very much appreciated, for me its about raising money for the charity as well as awareness which i feel an event like this would do, I have spoken to the event organisers today and they said 500 is used for all of your accomodation, staffing, meals etc and the rest goes directly to the charity, so I have decided to put the 500 in myself which means everything else i take off other people would go straight to the charity, whilst i know i could do a smaller event to raise money I feel people around me would be willing to give more for doing something like this, and I know my family as well as my grandad would be proud of me and I want to make him proudDisneyland Paris (Dream Castle) - January 2010

I think covering the costs yourself is a great idea, if you can afford it. Make it clear to people that that's what you're doing and that all of the sponsorship is going to the charity. I think that will answer some nagging questions people may have and will probably make them more generous as they can clearly see where their money is going.
I organised a Spring Fair (last sat) which raised just over £950. I hired a hall, put the event on the stallfinder website then charged stallholders £20 each (24 stalls). We also sold refreshments and had a raffle - all of the prizes were donated.
It did take quite a bit to organise but everyone was really generous with their money and time. Am thinking of doing another one near Christmas.
If you want any ideas of good places to ask for raffle prizes just ask!0 -
Mmm - I would be cautious abotu them saying that of the £1400 £500 covers expenses and the rest goes to charity - from their own website they say the average donation to the charity per person participating is £750 - bear in mind that some people will raise above the £1400 - if you raise £1400 less than half will be going to the charity.....
I certainly don't sponder these kinds of events - I'd much rather give my cash to people I know are doing things like riding coast to coast and organising and funsing the expesnes themselves. As for raising awareness - well i hate to sound insensitive but I think people are already fairly aware of cancer and cancer charities!People seem not to see that their opinion of the world is also a confession of character.

H I competely agree that everybody is already aware of it, sorry I re-read the email they sent to me and I must of mis heard them on the phone, 700 pays for the costs and the rest is donated to the charity, once again I have no problem paying the 700 myself, and then I'd still have the 1400 as a seperate target to raise directly for the charity, either way even if I orgranised something myself I would still have to front costing so I'd prefer to front costs to an even that's worthwhile and an event that I know I could potentially raise a lot of money forDisneyland Paris (Dream Castle) - January 2010

OP - I suspect that Skyline is earning a profit out of people's time and effort.
It would be perhaps rather naive maybe to just think that the £700 pound is just costs and that Skyline was not making a profit.
Maybe it migth be a good idea to do alot of research into Skyline.0
