Todo backup not recognising external hard drive

Hi - am trying to back up to an external hard drive
Have downloaded todo but it doesn't provide the external hard drive as a destination option when I try to do disk back up. In my computer the HD is drive E but only C is available. It also doesn't recognise hard drive as destination for automatic backing up and also for file back up. I did manage to do a clone of the laptop hard drive and a system backup - external hd gets recognised for these two.
Would therefore like to know how to do the automatic and file back ups to the external hard drive.
Sorry again if this is obvious - I do intend to get a bit more techie this year. Thanks a lot- urk

,or using a bootable cd?
Using the free version?
If you've done an image backup, the file backups can be done in explorer or by downloading shadowcopy!!
