Why shouldn't Auction winners have to pay automatically?

Huh? When did I say that I was refunding payment in order to refuse to sell?
.
A buyer can just say, thanks but no thanks and walk away. You still have to refund their payment and the situation as I have outlined still stands.
Or buyer can insist you refund a week before they collect so the money clears back to their bank account, again what do you do if they ask that?
Really very little point at all in going for immediate payment required by paypal if you actually hope for cash on collection.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. If you dont like items where "seller only posts once a week" or seller dispatches in 3-4 days, or seller dispatches using second class post, DONT BID
I don't. ( no need to shout I'm not deaf and I can read normal print size)
But the point you have missed is that if you want buyers to pay immediately, then I want imemdiate despatch in return. However given your other posts in this thread I'm not surprised that you fail to get my point0 -

I think this actually goes back to a point i made earlier, I do think there are some sellers who so dislike buyers they do everything in their power to put them off buying.
Most sellers, luckily, appreciate that buyers are needed to grow a business , obviously some see buyers as more of a hinderance.
I posted only a few months ago about a very odd seller I used (he was really cheap as no one would bid and I wanted his item to resell) . Had the 'must pay within 24 hours otherwise I will report you to ebay and you will banned' rubbish in his auciton and sent irate emails imemdiately bidding finished (at something silly like 3am in the morning) demanding payment immediately otherwise he was going to relist. He also could only get to the post office on a saturday, so item finished 3am Friday morning, I got up and paid at approx 8am and he told me i paid too late for him to bother sending it that saturday so I had to wait until the following saturday assuming he went to the PO then.
He did not get good feedback and stars from me and I successfully sold his item on at a fair profit and he meanwhile appears to have been restricted - and looking at his stars I am not surprised.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. The only problem with saying 'don't like, don't bid' is that people will take you up on it.
Better to be accomodating and take some risks along the way than annoy everyone else and only end up with the real timewasters who know they have you over a barrel."Well, it's election year, Bill, we'd rather people didn't exercise common sense..." - Jed Bartlet, The West Wing, season 4

No Im not missing your point. I suspect someone just like you just gave me something less than five stars because I didnt dispatch next day.......despite me saying I dispatch within 3 days.....primarily because I am in Ireland most of the week. As I said, despite wanting immediate payment (fed up with non paying bidders), I cant dispatch immediately, so if you cant wait, dont bid.illegitimi non carborundum0 -
Oh, and if you really can't cope with having to potentially wait four days for payment, then use another site which works on a different system where buyers have to pay before the listing finishes. If you sell auction items on eBay, then you have to be prepared for the fact that buyers have that time to pay in - eBay will probably not change the system as it seems to work for the majority of people who use it.
It used to be a lot worse - 8 days to open an NPB dispute and 8 days to close it - but since the site became a lot more dependent on electronic payments eBay decided to shorten the whole procedure, for which I'm very grateful.
You have to decide for yourself what you are prepared to put up with but if you really don't want to have to wait to be paid, then there's a lot that is within your control as regards the choice of a site to sell on (although most auction sites do work the same way, and many catalogue sites restrict private sellers to certain categories: it seems you may have to put up with it this way)."Well, it's election year, Bill, we'd rather people didn't exercise common sense..." - Jed Bartlet, The West Wing, season 4

If an auction has 9 days to run, and someone bids - do you really expect them to plan the next 9 days of their life around your auction?
They put their max bid in and check sometime after it finishes. If they happen to be away for the weekend when it fisnishes - then they will pay when they get back.
Impatient buyers AND sellers have ruined Ebay.0 -
Obviously some of you have strong opinions on this topic. I can understand the benefits for allowing buyers 4 days to pay, but I lean towards it being a bit too long when Paypal is the option of payment.
I as a seller contact buyers if I am not able to pay on the day of the Auction ends and have fortunately had buyers do the same. It isn't the end of the world I agree if a buyer takes a couple of days to pay.
Unlike other Selling platforms, communication seems to not be considered that much on Ebay regardless if there is little star rating for it or not.0 -
When I buy from eBay, I pay immediately. If I can't pay immediately, I email the seller before I bid to check they're ok with waiting for payment.0

I cannot sit in front of my PC on the off chance that I will win something and be there to pay immediately.. If something ends at 3am in the morning or when you are out working or socialising would you honestly not bother bidding even if you really wanted the item and seller hadn't given you 'permission' to pay a day or so later?
My life is far too busy to worry about watching ebay 24 hours a day, its bad enough as a seller but not as a buyer too.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards.
