paypal reversal

i have had 2 notification of payment emails today , but no sold items , so I have just logged in to my PayPal account and found that two people paid for items I was selling on eBay, the payment was then reversed, I have no record of them having bought the item in eBay. i have not refunded

according to paypal
PayPal reversed this payment because of a dispute or payment review. The money has been returned to the sender's PayPal account.

could some kind person explain what this means , as i have not had this happen before

thanks

Happened to me once - assumed it was just a technical error.

It is worth changing your passwords for ebay, paypal, and your linked email address, and make sure they are all different. The reason I say this is because this has twice happened to me, and both times it turned out to be an attempt to fraudulently hack my account - on one occasion my patpal account was in a minus figure of over £800 before it was sorted out, which was seriously scary!

I'm not saying this is what has happenned here, but it doesn't hurt to play safe.

This could be A few different reasons you are unaware of { 1. being what someone else has suggested }....

I once made a mistake and sold items and thought they never paid and then noticed there was a typo error in my email account I had listed for payment ...which meant buyers had paid which I saw as unpaid but paypal reversed as it wasnt the email listed with them - I had missed a letter off !!

Op, I get a number of these a month.

    They range from beng:

    1. Buyer has paid via an app.
    2. Buyers card in file has expired.
    3. Buyer is being a restricted item - age related.

You don't get notification in eBay as the buyers payment has it been verified by them. If you go into your financial summary on Paypal it will show them all. You will find they are reversed within minutes of beng paid. It's just a problem with their payment which means eBay doesn't record the sale.

If you email the buyers they are usually unaware there's a problem and see the refund as being made by you. Once you find out the problem they can pay again or you can send an invoice, as PayPal has kindly given you all the details including what they wanted to buy!

You were paid by accident - someone typed your email address in (or mis-typed their own)

Paypal took the mis-payment back of you

    Thats all Folks!

good idea - if they are selling on ebay and mis-spelled their email you'll get all their payments (then refunded) if they dont change it

  • I noticed something like this a while ago, money going in , then straight out and nothing sold, turns out they were blocked for having too many UPI disputes. So looked like something kicked in but after they had paid...
