I've sent two emails tonight and got the above message each time.
What does it mean and would the emails have been sent?

Some clues would be helpful, such as the OS you are using, what email program, etc.

Sorry.
Anyway, problem seems to have gone today, and the emails I sent yesterday got there safe.
It seemed that switching it off has cured the problem, whatever it was.

I use Windows 7 home and emails are sent through Yahoo, have disabled Outlook.

That happened with my emails on Yahoo yesterday as well.
One of them got through but it also ended up back in my spam box addressed to me from the recipient even though they did not send it and it was an exact copy of the message I had sent to them at the exact same time.

Wow, that takes me back, Stack Overflows occur when there is not enough memory to run certain hardware routines/code. Rebooting will fix the issue most of the time as this frees up any memory which was lost due to memory leaks (software behaving badly and not cleaning up after themselves)
